The bowhead whale can live over 200 years, meaning there are bowhead whales alive today that were born before the American Civil War. They break through Arctic ice to breathe, sing songs that change over time, and thrive in conditions that would kill most other animals. Iceland resumed commercial bowhead whaling in 2023. They have survived this before. We should make sure they survive it again.
